In the residence were the two children, children of an age not revealed by the police. The woman’s father, who, according to press reports, was in town visiting his daughter, was found tied up in the basement. Her husband, also Brazilian Jonathan Queiroz, was found seriously injured inside the car, on a street near the couple’s residence. The man was taken to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and died.

Local media reported that the woman’s body bore marks of stab wounds, but did not explain how her husband was injured. Police authorities did not give further details about the investigation and did not explain, for example, who had tied up Kamila’s father.

Although local newspapers reported that the victim was killed by her husband, police authorities have not confirmed that Jonathan is the perpetrator.

To g1Brazilian Rosane Rodrigues-Bachand, who lives in the city and is a community counselor at the Brazil-Québec Integration Center, said that cases of femicide are very rare, but that, in recent months, she has received requests for help from Brazilian women who live there.

“In recent months, I have received several requests for help from Brazilian women. When you are an immigrant, you lose your support base and can become a potential target,” he said. “This crime shocked the entire Brazilian community established in Québec. The main newspaper opened talking about this case. Domestic violence is rare here.”

O g1 contacted the Itamaraty, but until the last update of this report, there was no response.
