The child had been attacked with a scooter by a 15-year-old teenager in Shippagan, in the Acadian Peninsula, on Thursday.
The altercation was described as an incident of serious assault
over there RCMP.
On Saturday afternoon, the Caraquet detachment officer of the RCMPStéphane Robichaud, had indicated that the blow that the child had received and the resulting injury were pretty serious
and that he had to undergo surgery.
The RCMP continues its investigation.
A community in mourning
The mayor of Shippagan, Kassim Doumbia, took to social media to offer his support to the family.
The whole community is affected by this situation. [Il] will have fought until his last breath
he wrote in a message posted on Facebook on Saturday evening. My heart is with the family. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to family and friends.
The victim attended L’Envolée school in Shippagan.
The administration of this school offered Sunday morning its condolences to the relatives affected by the tragedy.
The death of a child is a loss that affects us all
can we read in a note sent to the parents. Your child may need to talk about it at home and may need your support in these difficult times. […] Allow him to verbalize how he feels. It may be difficult for you to find the words to speak to him; attentive listening and expressions of affection are often more valuable than words in these painful circumstances.
An intervention team will be on site on Monday to provide support services to students who need it.
The flags will be at half mast in Shippagan at the beginning of next week.
A crowdfunding campaign was also launched by community members to offer support to grieving family members.
