Singer-songwriter Gaith Boucher is the 2022 winner of the Georges-Dor Prize, offered by the Saint-Jean-Baptiste Society of Centre-du-Québec (SSJBCQ), for his show Résurgence, a major unifying project, who has made a significant contribution to the influence and enhancement of the French language.

Recognize Inverness as the cradle of traditional Quebec music

In this show about the origin of traditional Quebec music and regional history, the artist, surrounded by musicians and dancers, takes us through a 19th century Canadian evening that was called at the time “La soirée lunch boxes”.

The municipality of Inverness plays an important role in this. Gaith Boucher discovered, after more than a year of research, that traditional Quebec music was born in this municipality of Centre-du-Québec and greatly contributed to its development: “It’s the only place in Lower Canada where the Abenakis, the French Canadians, the Irish, the Scots and the American Loyalists were at the same time, at the same time and for a long period”, he says. “Their jams gave birth to our traditional Quebec music. »

An immersive unifying experience

To set up his creation, Gaith surrounded himself with professional musicians, choreographers and directors. To complete his troupe, he offered free cultural mediation workshops to the population during the summer of 2022. Two shows were then presented in Inverness and attracted more than 1,200 people from several regions of Quebec.

Gaith Boucher sees big for this show and would like to make it an immersive journey, in collaboration with the municipality and the Abenakis. He is deeply convinced that such a show could become a major tourist attraction in the L’Érable region. “The public is ready to receive this show and people in the area are mobilizing to participate, either as extras or as volunteers. All that remains is to obtain the support of the political milieu. »
