This is the second time in the episode that we hear about the Prince Daemon’s wife, but we never get to see her on screen. Now that he has left the kingdom, with Caraxes and his mistress, it will be interesting to see how his wife, Lady Rhea Royce, will react once it reaches Runestone. Who is Rhea Royce, wife of Daemon Targaryen?
The Daemon’s wife is Lady Rhea Royce, the heir to Runestone and House Royce in the Vale. In the book Fire and Blood it is revealed that Daemon found the Vale distasteful and boring, and that his distaste for Rhea was completely mutual. Daemon Talk about Rhea as his ‘bronze b***h’, to poke fun at the Royce family’s ancient bronze armor, and he even asked his brother, King Viserys I, to reject the marriage, but it did was refused.
Warning spoilers for the sequel. At the end of the day, Rhea Royce does not contribute to the Targaryen family tree. Her marriage to Daemon is both barren and loveless, and she dies separated from her husband. The Death of Lady Rhea is accidental: she falls from her horse while hunting falcons and her head hits a rock. His death leaves Daemon a tenuous claim to the Royce household, and the freedom he so desires to pursue a marriage of his choosing. To find out how many episodes the season will have, read this.
The marriage of Daemon with Lady Rhea and the death of this one will certainly play an important role in the continuation of the series House of the Dragon. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, will be changed in the story of Daemon and Rheaor if she’ll have a bigger role in HBO’s prequel series than in Fire and Blood.
