Lemfo YD5: New Smartwatch with an unusual, optical design

The YD5 is a new smartwatch with an extraordinary design. The model is currently being offered at a significantly reduced price as part of a time-limited discount campaign. The range of functions is quite small.

The no longer completely unknown smartwatch manufacturer Lemfo is now offering an unusual smartwatch with the YD5. Specifically, the wearable is not equipped with a housing made of a metal alloy, as is now common, but instead the housing is made of plastic. This is also transparent. The rotatable crown is also visually striking.

The YD5 is equipped with a 1.57-inch display with a resolution of 240 x 288 pixels. The watch can be operated not only via the crown, but also and especially via the touchscreen. An optical sensor for measuring the heart rate is installed, which can also record the heart rate throughout the day. Sleep duration and sleep quality can be monitored.

A battery with a capacity of 220 to 300 mAh is installed, the battery life should be several days. According to Lemfo, the model corresponds to the IP67 standard and should be able to withstand the damaging influence of dust and water to a certain extent.

A pedometer is installed. Alarms can be defined and a stopwatch can be used on the smartwatch itself. It is also possible to control music playback and protect the watch with a password.

The Lemfo YD5 is available from now until December 29 in direct import at a price of 37 euros, with free shipping within 15 days. It is unclear whether the model should not also be offered permanently at the low price – the original price of over 80 euros seems extremely ambitious in view of the range of functions and the many competitors.

I’ve been a journalist for over ten years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and since 2017 I’ve also worked for Notebookcheck. My current focus is in particular on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – i.e. compact systems with many possibilities. In addition, there is a soft spot for all kinds of wearables and especially for smartwatches. I work full-time as a laboratory engineer, which is why I’m not far from scientific contexts or the interpretation of complex measurements.
