Only more locals welcome! From now on, a Carinthian restaurateur only serves locals and completely excludes tourists and vegans.

The whole of Austria is now talking about this innkeeper: Stefan Lercher is starting the new year in a sensational way with his Peppino restaurant in Millstatt. When the restaurant closes on January 16th and reopens on January 19th, the landlord only wants to serve locals and regulars, according to the “Kleine Zeitung”. Or as the host himself puts it on social media: “Vegans, hippies, ecos and Arabs excluded.” The number of tables in the restaurant is also reduced to eight tables for this reason.

Hotels now automatically add tips to bills

According to the report, while there is a lot of fuss about the plans, the restaurateur explains his plan like this: “We were harassed by an Arab company at four tables – not anymore with me.” In addition, a decade of gastronomy has made him “mellow”, which is why he wants to focus on locals and regulars. Up to now there was room for around 250 guests in the restaurant, but this number is now to be drastically reduced. The innkeeper is also said to be plagued by personnel problems, after the “restart” he only has three employees.

“Will have a big problem”

While “over a thousand” dishes were served in the high season, the plan is to have around 250 guests per day in the future. And while many observers are wondering whether the innkeeper’s concept is sealing the complete end of the restaurant, he is more concerned and the market town of Millstatt, who will have “a huge problem” with the reduction of his gastronomy. On the one hand, the market town does not have sufficient gastro capacities, on the other hand, he himself has had to send hundreds of guests away in the past.

Because the landlord no longer wanted tourists, the restaurant should also “be removed from the list of the tourism office and the community,” according to the “Kleine Zeitung”. The menu will also be drastically reduced, concentrating on pizza (made by world champion Paolo Monaco), sushi, Kobe beef, salads and tiramisu, according to the report. And what’s over is over then. Gastro colleagues, but also the Chamber of Commerce, are watching the plan with eagle eyes, because, as the newspaper says, guests should not be excluded “because of gender, ethnicity or religion”.
