According to a restaurateur in Carinthia, vegans and Arabs are no longer admitted. Compared to “Today” he now justifies this step.
Mom mia! Stefan Lercher, operator of the popular Ristorante Pizzeria Peppino in Millstatt (Ktn.), did not expect this reaction: After the restaurateur banned Arabs and vegans from his restaurant via Instagram posting, the native of East Tyrol received praise, but also criticism overwhelmed
“Vegans, hippies, ecos (sic.) and Arabs excluded,” Lercher had previously clarified via social media story. Opposite to “Today” he now explained how it came about: It was not racist motives, but bad experiences with guests that made him do it. “A few days ago we had an Arab group who put their children’s shoes on the table.” When the waitress asked her to stop, the visitors responded with the statement “Fuck off you bitch, we’ll buy the whole house”, which crossed a red line for the restaurateur.
Vegetarians blocked lobster tanks
Lercher had even fought one or the other bouquet with quarrelsome vegetarians. “We have a lobster tank in the restaurant, they positioned themselves in front of it so that no lobsters have to die,” he shakes his head and clarifies: “I’ve worked for ten years and I don’t feel like doing something like that anymore. I just want to serve my regular guests. People know how I am – everyone should go where it suits them.”
No Arabs, “I stand by that”
For this reason, as well as due to the ongoing shortage of staff, Lercher wants to drastically reduce the capacity of his restaurant. Only eight tables will be available from mid-January, instead of 1,000 meals, only meals for 250 people will be served per day. With his admittedly harsh formulation, he did not want to offend anyone. “But I don’t take Arabs anymore, I stand by that.”
