Almost 17 years after the arrest of Florence Cassez and Israel Vallarta at the Las Chinitas ranch, located in Cuernavaca, the case continues to give people something to talk about, especially due to the publication of the documentary ‘The Cassez-Vallarta case: a criminal novel’ and where even former French President Nicolas Sarkozy points to Mexican officials.
One of the hypotheses of the documentary is that the arrest of the then couple (Florence Cassez and Israel Vallarta) was ordered by the businessman Eduardo Margolidespite the fact that the then Attorney General’s Office (PGR) never acted against him. Who is Eduardo Margolis?
Eduardo Margolis is a Mexican businessman of Jewish origin, who has participation in companies of different areas: from private security to beauty. He is believed to be a former agent of the MossadIsrael’s government security agency, similar to the role played by the CIA in the United States or the FSB in Russia.
According to an investigation published by the weekly ProcessIn 2012, Eduardo Margolis rubs shoulders with Isabel Miranda de Wallace and the Jewish community of Polanco, in Mexico City. “Several testimonies point to illicit activities of this man whom they brand as powerful, arrogant and vindictive”, refer the authors of said report, Homero Campa and Jorge Carrasco.
Why is Eduardo Margolis related to the Cassez case?
One of the hypotheses suggests that Eduardo Margolis had business relations with sebastian casezFlorence’s brother, same ones that failed and, as an alleged act of revenge, he ordered the arrest of the French citizen and her then-partnerIsrael Vallarta, in 2005. All this in complicity with the then Federal Investigation Agency (AFI), commanded by Genaro García Luna.
In an opinion presented before the Third District Judge of Federal Criminal Proceedings in the State of Mexico, during 2016, Eduardo Margolis is accused of ordering and committing acts of torture against Israel Vallarta, while he was detained at the Office of the Special Prosecutor for Organized Crime Investigation (SEIDO); in said resource, the name of the entrepreneur appears on at least 22 occasions.
In 2007, Eduardo Margolis appeared before federal authorities and denied the allegations made by Israel Vallarta and Florence Cassez. Since 2013, the French citizen was released by the Mexican authorities, while Israel Vallarta remains in prison; both were accused of being part of an alleged gang of kidnappers known as ‘The Zodiacs’.
