The body of the tourist who fell in Iguaçu Falls was identified this Sunday (23) as Canadian Sean Sarq, 58 years old. The identification was confirmed by the Scientific Police of Paraná after an autopsy examination.

The State Department of Public Security says it is awaiting a manifestation from the Canadian consulate, which has already been informed.

O tourist drowned after falling off railing from a walkway on the Argentine side of the Falls, on the 17th of this month, in the city of Puerto Iguazú.

His body was found the following day, on the Brazilian bank of the Iguaçu River, near the Tancredo Neves bridge.

The point is about 22 kilometers away from the Iguaçu Falls, in Paraná. He was located by a man who was doing nautical tours in the region and rescued by the Fire Department.

According to a statement released by the Argentine authorities, witnesses reported that the Canadian had climbed the fence and fell into the water, then disappeared.

It is not yet known whether he jumped or wanted to take a selfie at the time of the accident.

The Iguaçu National Park adviser said that the photo of a man in the waters of the river that is circulating on the internet is not confirmed as being of the tourist.

In a statement, the Iguazú National Park, in Argentina, said it would not make any statement at the moment “out of respect for the people involved in the event and not to interfere with the investigations”.

On his social networks, Sean Saraq has the Iguazu Falls as his cover photo.

He identified himself as a “strategic planner” with experience in consumer and pharmaceutical categories, as well as market research in North America and Europe.

Sarq reported that he lived in different cities in Canada, “in Paris, Europe, and the ‘Paris of North America’ (Montreal), I hope to someday live in the ‘Paris of South America,’ Buenos Aires,” he wrote.

The Iguaçu National Park is a natural world heritage site and has the largest set of waterfalls in the world. According to the park, more than 1 million people from 142 different countries have visited the site this year.
