After Harry Styles performed in Argentina and praised the fans’ reception there, Brazilians soon tried to remember on social networks that the British pop star tattooed “Brazil” on his upper thigh in 2014, when he was in the country for the first time yet with the group One Direction. On the occasion, Harry even dropped his pants in the middle of the show to show the tribute to the fans. Tattoos, however, do not seem to be an issue for the artist. In all, he has around 60 – he himself gave that number to Variety magazine in 2020.
Tattoos tend to be individual and small pieces, perhaps that’s why it doesn’t seem like he has so many spread across his body, but they represent family members, musical references and personal experiences. Some have no meaning. The first was a star on his left biceps, made in 2012, when he turned 18.
While still part of the One Direction group, in 2015, Harry said in an interview with James Corden’s “The Late Late Show” that he even got a tattoo on himself. “I wrote ‘big’ on my big toe,” he admitted. On the same occasion, the host of the program challenged the band and Harry ended up tattooing live “Late Late”, in reference to the program, on his left arm.

In 2012, Harry got a butterfly tattoo below his chest, almost on his stomach. Supposedly symbolizing a transformation. Besides her, two swallows (one facing the other) make up the singer’s chest. “I like that kind of tattoo, like the old sailor kind of tattoo. They symbolize travel, and we (in One Direction) travel a lot!” he told Us Weekly.
Above the swallow on the left side are the words “17 Black”, which tattoo artist Kevin Paul told GQ UK meant a lost match. On the underside of the same swallow is a faded broken heart and two crosses, one over the letter “M” and the other over the letter “K” — the former would represent his maternal grandmother, Mary Smith, the latter, his paternal grandfather, Keith Fredrick. Next to the right swallow there is a cross over the letter “B”, which can also represent something related to grandparents.
Atop each collarbone, Harry Styles has dates tattooed: 1957 and 1967. These are the birth years of the parents. On each shoulder he has a cursive “G” and “A”, the “G” representing his sister Gemma and the A for his mother Anne.
Under his left armpit is an empty cage, two theater masks and the acronym “SNCL”, which means “smile now, cry later”. And, on each side of his abdomen, the artist has branches of ferns.

Apparently, the most tattooed place on Harry Styles’ body is his left arm. On the shoulder are several letters. Harry has “NY”, “LA” and “LDN” as homages and references to the three cities he takes turns in. Next to “NY” are Hebrew letters that make up his sister’s name. Below is the phrase “Can I stay?” (Can I stay?), meaning unknown. On the back of the shoulder, it has the outline of a guitar.
In the middle of the arm, a pirate ship steals attention. Below is an anatomical heart. Above the ship is artwork from Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” album. Below the triangle is a tuxedo-clad skeleton framed in a letter. Other random designs make up the arm as three nails, a coat hanger, the Green Bay Packers football team symbol, the word “hi” and an English cracker. Further down the inside of the forearm, Harry has a bottle of liquor and, further down, the Holy Bible.

On his right thigh, Harry has a tiger’s head. Above and below each knee are the words “yes” and “no” written in French and Spanish. On the ankles, comes the words “Never gonna dance again” (I will never dance again), in reference to the music of George Michael.
