Downdetector, a website that monitors the operation of online services, pointed out that the instability started at 4:10 pm today, reaching a peak of 640 complaints at 5:15 pm. For now, there are no reports of the same issue in the beta for iPhone (iOS).

O TechAll got in touch with , the company that owns WhatsApp, to understand what might have caused the bug. Because the problem seems to be exclusive to Android, the report also contacted Google, the company that controls the operating system. So far, there has been no response, but the story will be updated when it receives a response.

Google Trends, the site that compiles the main searches made on Google, indicated that, in the last hour of this Monday (27), there was a sudden increase in terms such as “how to update WhatsApp beta”, “how to exit WhatsApp beta on Android ” and “update WhatsApp beta”. On Twitter, there are also complaints in English and Spanish, which indicates that the bug is also happening in other countries.

Due to the error in WhatsApp beta, Android users are unable to use the messenger. For now, Meta has not yet commented on the bug, and therefore there is still no official way to solve the problem. However, it is possible to exit the trial version if you want to use the app. The step by step is very simple:

  1. First, open the Google Play Store and go to “Apps already installed”. Another option is to search for the app name in the search tab, represented by the magnifying glass. Tap on “WhatsApp Messenger”;
  2. Scroll down until you see “You are a Beta Tester” and tap “Sign Out”. A confirmation popup will appear. To confirm your exit from WhatsApp beta on Android, tap “Exit” again;
  3. Return to the top of the screen. Now select “Uninstall”. Tap “Ok” in the pop up that appears to confirm the uninstallation;
  4. Close the Android store and open it again. Search for “WhatsApp” in the search tab”. Now, tap on “Install” and download the application;
  5. Once installed, you will need to log back into your account. It goes without saying that if you haven’t backed up recently, conversations will be lost for the last backup date.
