Doha – Al Sharq website

“Ahlam al-Bashir” is a Syrian woman, described by the Turkish authorities as the main suspect in the bombing of Istiklal Street in Istanbul, according to Al Jazeera.

According to Turkish security, Al-Bashir, after placing the bomb on Istiklal Street, got into a taxi heading to Esenler district in Istanbul, and was arrested in Kucukcekmece district in Istanbul at 02:50 on Monday.

The Istanbul Police Department teams spotted the suspect through images recorded by security cameras during the search operations that began immediately after the explosion, according to what was published by the TRT website.

According to the statement, it infiltrated Turkish territory from the Syrian region of Afrin, after being trained by the Kurdistan Workers Party and the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, in northern Syria.

Ahlam, who was holding a Syrian passport, was caught hiding at one of the given addresses.

Police teams searched the house, accompanied by specially trained dogs, as a pistol, bullets and large amounts of foreign currency and Turkish lira were seized.

The director of Al Jazeera’s office in Turkey, Abdul Azim Muhammad, said that the accused lives alone in the aforementioned house located in one of the old neighborhoods of Istanbul, which contains little furniture.

He added that a pistol, a magazine and a sum of money were found with her, some in Turkish currency, and some in euros.

Detailed confessions

Police say the woman said in an initial interrogation that she had received training from Kurdish militants in Syria, and that she admitted that she had acted on the orders of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and entered Turkey through the Afrin region in northwestern Syria.

Within the details of the scenario revealed by the Turkish authorities, Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said that “the perpetrators of the terrorist attack would have fled to Greece on Monday if they had not been arrested.”

The scenario also included the killing of the perpetrator of the attack, in an attempt to block access to the rest of the accused, according to the Turkish authorities.

orders to kill

Commenting on this, Soylu said, “There is news that will sadden the terrorist organization, which is that the person whom the organization ordered to kill the bomber was also arrested.”

He added, “We detected a call in which the speaker directed the cell members to kill the attacker to prevent knowledge of the circumstances of the attack. We arrested a person in this cell who was assigned to kill the attacker.”

The Turkish Interior Minister added that preliminary estimates indicate that the instructions to carry out the bombing were issued from the city of “Ain al-Arab” (Kobani) in northern Syria.

The Turkish Interior Minister said that his country does not accept the condolences extended by the US embassy after the bombing on Istiklal Street.

Soylu added, “We do not accept condolences from the US embassy. We know who supports terrorism in northern Syria, and we know the message they wanted to convey to Turkey through this attack.”

He stressed that “the one who supports terrorist organizations in northern Syria is the one who carried out the attack against us.”

Turkish media broadcast a video clip and photos showing the moment of the arrest of the accused of carrying out the bombing attack that took place on Istiklal Street in Istanbul on Sunday, which killed 6 people and wounded more than 80 others.
