Following the wave of anger that swept social media, the audiovisual control authority announced, on Monday evening, the final suspension of broadcasting the Al-Ajwa channel, according to what was confirmed by the official Algerian News Agency.

Closure of Algerian channels for various reasons

This is not the first time that the Algerian authorities have closed a TV channel, as in June 2021, the audiovisual control authority decided to stop broadcasting Al-Hayat channel, after summoning its director, Habet Hanachi.

This decision came after broadcasting an episode of an interview conducted by the channel’s director, Habet Hanachi, with former parliamentarian Noureddine Ait Hammouda, who made “offensive” statements to the founder of the modern Algerian state, Emir Abdelkader.
