For a week, reactions have followed one another after the violent attack on Angèle Houin, 89, by three minors in Cannes. What happened ? How is the victim? Who are the attackers? What legal consequences? 20 minutes make the point.

Recall of facts

Last Monday, around 12:30 p.m., Angèle Houin, 89, was found lifeless in front of her building, located in a residence in the Bocca district of Cannes. Thanks to CCTV footage, the caretaker of the residence discovers that the old lady was the victim of a violent attack perpetrated by three minors aged 14 and 15. One of them punched her in the face causing her to fall, another stole her purse while the last was filming the scene before leaving her for dead, unconscious, on the ground.

A complaint lodged

Angèle Houin was then transported to the emergency room by the firefighters. According to the findings of a medical examiner, she suffered “bruises, erosions to the limbs and significant craniofacial trauma with contusions”.

Seven days of total incapacity for work later, she testified in front of the BFMTV camera, still from her hospital room, still showing bruises and contusions. The octogenarian said she had “seen nothing” and “felt nothing” and does not understand why she was the target of this violence. “I did nothing to these young people,” she told our colleagues.

However, she confided that she was not “angry” wondering if it was the fault of these young people or that of their parents, before specifying that she had filed a complaint. She also said that a family of one of the attackers had called her granddaughter to ask her to remove the complaint for money. Which she refused.

Authors aged 14 and 15 placed in closed centers

The three perpetrators were quickly identified. The one who hit the lady was taken to the police station by her family the day after the attack, the last two were arrested on Wednesday. All three were referred Thursday afternoon and will answer for their actions in juvenile court on November 30.

The three accused will be prosecuted in particular for “aggravated violence committed to the detriment of a particularly vulnerable person”. The Grasse prosecutor’s office clarified that the author of the blows, aged 14, and the one who stole the bag, 15, are also involved in another case: an attempted theft with damage committed in a meeting on July 27.

For the person who filmed the scene, the facts retained are also “complicity in violence followed by incapacity not exceeding eight days with these circumstances that the facts were committed in a meeting and on a vulnerable person, by knowingly recording images relating to the commission of the facts. »

Pending their judgment, they were, as part of their judicial review, placed in closed educational centers, one in Marseille, another in Bordeaux and the last in Saint-Etienne.

The mayor of Cannes requests “a ban on staying in the town”

In a letter sent Thursday to the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, the LR mayor of Cannes David Lisnard said he hoped “that the minority excuse can be automatically lifted in such serious cases and that the perpetrators of such acts are considered as litigants in their own right”. He also explains that he “asked for the expulsion [des familles des trois mis en cause] social housing from which they benefit from the landlords concerned” as well as a “prohibition on staying and passing through the town of Cannes against the three attackers”.
