Here is a review of the main activities as well as a short guide to find out what is open or closed for Remembrance Day.

The national Remembrance Day ceremony will take place in downtown Ottawa on Friday at the National War Memorial, starting at 10:30 a.m.

In Ottawa, in accordance with Ottawa’s Remembrance Day bylaw, most retail businesses will open at 12:30 p.m. Friday. Restaurants, small grocery stores, small pharmacies, convenience stores and gas stations are among the exemptions, however.

On the other side of the river, Promenades Gatineau will be open according to normal hours, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Galeries de Hull and the Galeries Aylmer will also be open according to regular hours, for Remembrance Day.

Branches of the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO) will not open until 12:30 p.m. on November 11 and will close at the usual time.

Branches The Beer Store in Ottawa will open at 12:30 p.m.

In Outaouais, no schedule change is planned at the branches of the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) or at the Société québécoise du cannabis (SQDC).

OC Transpo and Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) buses will operate according to regular weekday schedules.

Veterans who wear their medals or uniform during National Veterans’ Week, November 5-11, can ride free buses and paratransit service from OC Transpo, Para Transpo and STO. People accompanying veterans can also travel free of charge.

At 11:00 a.m. Friday, all transit vehicles will pull to the side of the road for two minutes of silence, if safe to do so.

All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions will apply on Friday. Parking rules will also apply on the Gatineau side.

Parking will be provided free of charge at Ottawa City Hall between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. for veterans wearing their medals or uniform or for those with veteran license plates.

The Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of History will be open on Friday. Admission will be free.

The Canadian Cold War Museum, also known as the Diefenbunker Museum, will be open for Remembrance Day and will offer free admission to veterans, serving military personnel and accompanying family members.

The Canadian Museum of Nature, the Canada Science and Technology Museum, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum and the Ottawa Art Gallery will be open on Friday.

The National Gallery of Canada will also be open on Remembrance Day, but later than usual, from noon to 5 p.m.

All branches of the Ottawa Public Library will be closed on Remembrance Day.

In Gatineau, all branches of the municipal library will be open, according to the regular schedule.

Garbage and recycling collection will take place as usual, both on the Ottawa side and in Gatineau.

All City of Ottawa recreation facilities will be open for walk-in activities. Most of the pool activities will also be offered on Friday in Ottawa.

The Gatineau Sports Center will be open on November 11, according to the regular schedule.

All City of Ottawa Client Service Centres, including the Service Center at 110 Laurier Avenue West and Ben Franklin Square, will be closed for Remembrance Day. The 311 call center will however be open to answer urgent questions.

All municipal child care centers in Ottawa will be closed.

The city’s Provincial Offenses Court will be closed on Friday.

The sexual health clinic will be closed, as will the Bernard Grandmaître respite centre. The supervised consumption site at 179 Clarence Street will be closed, however the mobile van will still operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The Ottawa Public Health vaccine reservation line will be closed on Friday.

In Gatineau, the City’s customer service centers will be open and municipal services will be offered as usual.
