Identity of helicopter crash victim released

The accident occurred around 12:40 p.m. near 238, 10^e Rank in the MRC of Drummond.

According to SQthe device would have exploded in flight before crashing on the ground.

The victim was an experienced pilot. He had himself built the device in which he was riding at the time of the accident.

He also flew planes, notably for the Society for the Protection of Forests Against Fire (SOPFEU). The SOPFEU mentioned that he had been working for the company’s activities as a commander for two years.

He had extensive experience and knowledge of forest fire suppression operations in Quebec, having also been employed by the Government Air Serviceshe mentions on her Facebook page.

The total incomprehension on the side of his family

Sylvain Desmarais’ spouse, Annie Côté, is struggling to understand what caused his death. According to her, the pilot would never have been negligent.

It was ideal conditions and he had checked everything, done all the procedures, the maneuvers. [Malheureusement] the accident happened, and we don’t know whyshe laments.

Sylvain Desmarais’ daughter, Vicky Desmarais, was on site at the time of the tragedy. She also doesn’t understand what could have happened.

My father, he had been an airplane pilot for 45 years. He started flying at age 17 with a hang glider he made himself. Then he went to get his lessons, he became an instructor, he did his classesshe says.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada dispatched its investigators to the scene of the accident on Tuesday evening. They must now determine whether a formal investigation will be initiated based on the evidence gathered on the ground.
