After weeks of negotiations, the Ile-de-France region and the State managed, on the evening of December 6, to reach an agreement to limit theincrease in prices to 12% of the current price. The president of Les Républicains (LR) in the region, Valérie Pécresse, was delighted with this decision when the increase in prices had until then been announced at 20%.

However, this Wednesday, December 7, several Parisian elected officials and certain users gathered in front of the headquarters of Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), the regional body in charge of public transport in the Ile-de-France region, in order to contest this change in the price of transport. An unwelcome increase according to them, while the French are suffering the brunt of inflation.

Why the price of the Navigo Pass will increase in 2023

The increase in prices comes as the board of directors of Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) voted this Wednesday, December 7 the provisional budget for the year 2023. Until then, 450 million euros were missing at thea Region to complete the financing of public transport. In question, the operating costs of the RATP have soared under the effect of inflation in energy prices. In order to raise this sum, the region, the city of Paris and the Ile-de-France departments have chosen to increase their contribution to Ile-de-France Mobilités. The government has also put its hand in its pocket with aid of 200 million euros to help the public transport manager fill the void in its coffers. The rest must be financed by the users via the increase in tariffs. Nevertheless, of the current two million subscribers, IDFM expects to lose between 30,000 and 40,000 due to price increases in 2023.
