Hundreds of thousands of Argentines took to the streets of Buenos Aires on Sunday to celebrate the victory of the Argentine team in the final of the World Cup in Qatar against the French team.
After a 3-3 draw after extra time, the Albiceleste, led by star Lionel Messi, beat Les Bleus on penalties 4-2, making Argentina the first South American nation to win the World Cup since 1986.
Carrying flags or jerseys in the blue and white colors of the national team, the Argentines invaded the center of Buenos Aires a few minutes after the victory marked by a brace from Lionel Messi. Scenes of jubilation are also taking place across Argentina.
“Soooy Argentino, es un sentimiento, no puedo paraaar!” (“I’m Argentinian, it’s a feeling, I can’t stop!” Barely minutes after Montiel’s victorious shot on goal, songs, firecrackers, horn concerts, disputed the sound space of the capital Buenos Aires in the afternoon.

From Mar del Plata, on the Atlantic, to Jujuy at the foot of the Andes, and in Buenos Aires of course, millions of Argentines, around giant screens in a park, a stadium, on a seafront, at home , vibrated and first accompanied a euphoric crescendo with a 2-0 advantage at the break. Then anxiety, until the end 2-2, 3-3, shots on goal.
“It is our destiny to suffer”
“It’s our destiny to suffer! A sine qua non condition to be Argentinian!” A supporter joked to AFP, between hilarity and emotion, in a bar in the capital near the Obelisk. “Let’s be clear: Argentina is in deep shit. Economically, socially, we’re in trouble. So it’s a well-deserved distraction.”

French disappointment
On the other hand, the immense hope of a third star turned into huge disappointment for French supporters on Sunday, after the final of the World Cup-2022.
On the Champs-Elysées, the usual meeting place for football parties, several thousand people had braved the cold and the drizzle to follow the match on their mobile phones.
Some cheers and fireworks were heard during extra time, when French striker Kylian Mbappé equalized from the penalty spot.
