Bang effect – OMV accident could also be sabotage

According to the report, it was once again made clear during this conversation that in the course of the investigations into the cause of the accident by internal and external experts, no indications of an act of sabotage were found. Accordingly, the DSN has also confirmed to OMV that there are no investigations.

background

On June 3, 2022, during the legally required water pressure test as part of the final work on the OMV refinery in Schwechat, a mechanical incident caused considerable damage to the crude oil distillation plant.

This plant prepares most of the crude oil into its components and thus prepares it for further processing in the refinery. As a result, only 20 percent of the total refinery capacity could be used. OMV plans to bring the Schwechat refinery back into full operation in the first half of October.
