A 59-year-old truck driver was fatally injured during loading work on Wednesday.

A tragic accident happened on Wednesday morning around 7.45 a.m. at a construction site on the Siltronic AG factory premises in Freiberg. As press spokeswoman Verena Stütze further informed, an employee of an external company had a fatal accident. Literally it says in the message: “Our deep sympathy goes to the family and relatives of the deceased.” The police and public prosecutor’s office have started the investigation.

As reported by Julia Schwarzenberg from the police press office in Chemnitz, a 59-year-old truck driver was seriously injured during loading work on the factory premises on Berthelsdorfer Straße. An emergency doctor who was called could only determine the man’s death. The Chemnitz criminal police, together with the Saxony State Directorate, Occupational Health and Safety Department, have started investigating what happened: “In this context, it is now necessary to examine exactly how the accident happened.”

A new crystal pulling hall is currently being built at Siltronic AG’s Freiberg plant. According to the company, the expansion will create 60 additional jobs. The manufacturer of silicon wafers for the chip industry currently employs around 900 people in the central Saxon district town. The company has production facilities in Asia, Europe and the USA. Siltronic AG employs around 4,300 people worldwide. Chips for everything from computers and smartphones to electric cars and wind turbines are made from silicon wafers.
