Four Hills Tournament 2022/23: mode and rules
The 2022/23 Four Hills Tournament is part of the World Cup calendar, which means that the results count towards the World Cup standings. However, the Four Hills Tournament differs from normal World Cup competitions. At the Four Hills Tournament, the athletes compete against each other in the so-called knockout mode. 50 athletes, divided into 25 pairs, take part in the qualification. After qualification, the athletes compete in duels, with the best jumper in the qualification competing against the 50th place finisher. The winners of these duels qualify for the final round, along with the top five losers. A total of 30 athletes will take part in the final round.
Planned women’s Four Hills Tournament 2023/24 cancelled
The German Ski Association (DSV) was disappointed after the cancellation of the Women’s Four Hills Tournament. “Every year that women don’t have a Four Hills Tournament, we miss out on promoting their sport and further upgrading women’s ski jumping,” said team manager Horst Hüttel from the German Ski Association (DSV).
Originally, the first event was for the upcoming one Season 2023/24 planned, but the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and the DSV had agreed with the international ski association Fis in April that it would not be possible after all. “The integration of women into the existing tour is actually essential for us,” said Hüttel. “Whenever the women’s World Cups go hand in hand with the men’s, we see that the interest of the spectators is significantly higher,” says Hüttel. This year, the men will contest the 71st edition of the traditional event with four jumps in Oberstdorf, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Innsbruck and Bischofshofen.
