Basel: “Massively translated speed” – serious rear-end collision in tunnel

At around 3 p.m. there was an accident in the Black Forest tunnel in Basel involving three passenger vehicles. One person was seriously injured and two others suffered minor injuries.

One of the vehicles overturned in the accident, crashed into the tunnel wall and lay on its side. The 54-year-old who caused the accident was taken to the emergency room with serious injuries. The public prosecutor ordered a blood and urine test and his driver’s license was taken from him on the spot. Two other drivers were slightly injured and taken to the university hospital for further investigation.

The Black Forest tunnel was completely closed for two hours, which led to large backlogs from France and Germany. At 5:00 p.m., one of the lanes was reopened and a full opening is expected around 7:00 p.m.

Police advise avoiding the area on a large scale. There are big backlogs from France and Germany. According to the police report, one lane has now been reopened. The police are still working at the scene of the accident.
