Berlin (MH) – The mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre and the tenor Jonas Kaufmann receive the music award “Opus Klassik” 2022 as singer of the year. The award for Conductor of the Year goes to Vladimir Jurowski, the Association for the Promotion of Classical Music announced on Friday in Berlin. The award ceremony will take place at the beginning of October in the form of a chamber concert and a gala.

Beatrice Rana (piano), Tianwa Yang (violin) and Dominik Wollenweber (clarinet) were honored as instrumentalists of the year. The prizes in the Young Artists category go to baritone Äneas Humm, tenor Pene Pati, double bass player Dominik Wagner and harpist Magdalena Hoffmann. The Hamburg initiative “The Young ClassX” was honored as the best project for promoting young talent. The “Innovation Award for Sustainability” awarded for the first time goes to the guided cycle tour “Bach by Bike”. Altogether prizes are awarded in 27 categories.

The gala on October 9th in the Konzerthaus Berlin will be recorded by and will be broadcast on the same evening from 10:15 p.m. It will also be announced who will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Expected guests include Lea Desandre, Jonas Kaufmann, the mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato, the composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi, and Albrecht , solo oboist with the Berlin Philharmonic. Artists such as accordionist Viviane Chassot, composers Hania Rani and Dobrawa Czocher, and pianist Francesco Tristano have been announced for the chamber concert the night before at Villa Elisabeth.

The Opus Klassik music prize has been awarded since 2018 by record labels, publishers and concert organizers who have joined together to form the Association for the Promotion of Classical Music. Before that, the Echo Klassik, which was awarded by the Federal Association of the Music Industry (BVMI), had existed for 25 years.
