After the consulate of the Netherlands in Cartagena confirmed that last Tuesday the body of Robert Gerrit Kootte and Nienke Guri Trishna Bawa, the Dutch tourist couple who died of intoxication in the Heroic Cityin the last few hours there has been new news about this case, this time from his country of origin.

In dialogue with EL TIEMPO, doctor Edén Álvarez, lawyer of the Hotel Casa del Coliseo, in the Colonial City, where the two Dutchmen slept on the nights of Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August, assured that the lifeless bodies of these people, in addition to the autopsies that were carried out in Colombia, will be subjected to further necropsy studies in the Netherlands.

And adds the hotel, whose owner is of Dutch origin: “All the reports and inspections necessary for the operation of a boutique hotel in our beloved Cartagena de Indias, were presented and have been verified to the satisfaction of the competent entities.”

Until now, this hotel has kept total reservations about these deaths, because within its policies is privacy for its guests and, in this case, for the relatives of the deceased.

The authorities continue to collect information to determine the origin of the death of Robert and Nienke during their stay in Cartagena de Indias, from Minca, Magdalena.”

The tourists dined for the last time on Sunday at the El Arsenal The Rum Box restaurant, in the Getsemaní neighborhood, in the company of a woman and a man, also foreigners; but the next day they triggered the health crises. Initially received home health care at the hotel, but given the serious state of health that both presented, they were referred to the Medihelp clinic in Bocagrande.

The first diagnosis on the death of the two travelers was intoxication.

This was stated by Dr. Javier Hernández, medical director of the clinic, to where they were taken by the Police, still alive, on Monday, August 22. There they died.

“We received two patients of Dutch nationality at night (Monday), who were treated before a painting with a significant commitment to their general condition. The female patient required resuscitation for having arrived with a very severe affectation of her vital responses. But that resuscitation did not work and she died, ”said Dr. Javier Hernández on Wednesday after the deaths.

Robert Gerrit Kootte had been immediately transferred to an intensive care unit.

“He was handled all night with what was pertinent to a seizure, which was evident from his arrival, but unfortunately in the morning hours he also died (Tuesday),” Dr. Hernández’s doctor reported.

Unofficial sources from the clinic told EL TIEMPO that these people presented severe symptoms of “intoxication by non-chemical substances.”

In the hands of the Attorney General’s Office are the videos of the restaurant, and of what happened there on the night of Sunday, August 21, when the two travelers had dinner for the last time.

The testimonies of Abraham Dau, who assures that the couple was accompanied by another couple, also foreigners, is also a key piece of the judicial investigations.
