The return of BLACKPINK makes itself felt in the industry. “Pink Venom,” her first official single in 20 months, debuted at No. 1 on Spotify’s global chart. With this result, the girl group achieves a historical milestone for K-pop and music.

Never before has a girl band reached #1 in the ranking determined by the number of reproductions per day that a song has globally. “Pink venom” got 7.93 million streams during its first 24 hours and claimed the throne for BLACKPINK.

This is also the first time that a Korean-language song has topped the Global Spotify Chart. It should be remembered that BTS got #1 in 2020 with “Dynamite”, an English single.

In terms of streaming figures, “Pink Venom” comes in at second place overall for K-pop acts. In first place is “Butter” by BTS, with 11 million streams (although it debuted at #2 on Spotify) and “Dynamite” appears in third position, with 7.7 million.

What other achievements certify the commercial success of BLACKPINK? The music video of “Pink Venom” was named as the best debut of 2022 on YouTube with 86,228 million views within 24 hours of its premiere.

This figure has been captured from the view count in real time, but the platform would provide the official number in the coming days.

As a fact, it should be noted that the current record for the MV of a female artist with the most views on its first day is also held by BLACKPINK with “How you like that”. Said track achieved 86.3 million views in 2020.

The overall record (for any music act) is still held by BTS with “Butter” and their 108.2 million YouTube streams.

How is “Pink Venom” doing in Korea?

In addition to its success on global platforms, “Pink Venom” records strong results in South Korea.

After its first day, the track managed to debut at #2 on the daily list of MelOn, the most used music streaming service in the country. It is the highest income for a female group in the year.

This position was achieved with the 468,968 unique listeners recorded by “Pink venom” in Melon. It was second only to BIGBANG’s “Still Life” when compared to another K-pop group that made a comeback in 2022.
