The UTMB Mont-Blanc committee confirmed the fatal accident of a PTL runner near the Plan Glacier Refuge. The athlete was with his team, on an official trail located between the Col de Tricot and the Plan Glacier Refuge, a permanently marked trail equipped by the PTL. The rescue team intervened with a helicopter and confirmed the death of the participant, at 01:30 CET, (August 23). Out of respect for the family, the anonymous identity of the participant is kept. All PTL teams have been informed of the situation. The test continues and each team can decide whether to continue the adventure.

The UTMB organization reported the fatal accident to all the PTL teams, who can decide whether to continue in the adventure or prefer to withdraw

LPTL began Monday at eight o’clock in the Place Triangle de l’Amitié in Chamonix. In the 2022 edition, 105 teams of 2 or 3 runners participate. This is the most mountainous and longest ultra-endurance test of the UTMB. There are 300 km and 26,000 meters of positive elevation gain to be covered in a maximum of 151 hours. To participate in this test, runners must present their sports resume and pass the selection that the UTMB organization makes based on their experience evaluated in the file.

Last year a runner also died, but it was in the TDS test. The participant suffered a fall on the descent of Passeur de Pralognan, km 62.3 of the 145 km of the race.
