Actor Brad Pitt and singer Nick Cave reveal their own artworks at Finnish exhibition

What do actor Brad Pitt and singer Nick Cave have in common? They are both active in the artistic world these days. Last Saturday, the two unveiled their artworks for the first time in a Finnish museum in the city of Tampere. “It just feels right,” Pitt said at the opening ceremony.

Who would have thought that in addition to being a successful actor, Brad Pitt is also a sculptor? He is presenting his works to the general public for the first time. He did this in an art museum in the Finnish city of Tampere together with the Australian singer Nick Cave and the British sculptor Thomas Houseago.

The images were revealed by the 58-year-old actor himself on Saturday, as part of a larger exhibition by Houseago. He did this alongside a ceramic series by Australian musician Nick Cave. “This is a new world for us and our first exhibition. It feels really good,” Pitt told Finnish broadcaster Yle during the opening ceremony.

Self-reflection

Pitt’s nine works include a cast plaster wall sculpture depicting “a gunfight” and a series of silicone statues. “It’s about self-reflection. It’s about what I’ve done wrong in my relationships, where I’ve done wrong, where I’m complicit,” said Pitt. Reportedly, the actor found peace and solace in pottery after his divorce from Angelina Jolie. In 2017, he is said to have spent about 15 hours a day in Houseago’s studio in Los Angeles, in America.

Singer Nick Cave was also allowed to exhibit his ceramics in the Houseago exhibition. He created seventeen hand-painted ceramic figurines depicting “the life of the devil in seventeen stages”. It is no surprise that the musician enters the art world. Before starting his singing career, he studied painting in Melbourne, Australia.

You can view the artworks until July 15, 2023 at the Sara Hildén Art Museum in the Finnish city of Tampere.
