South Korea Halloween Incident.. 3 reasons led to the massive disaster in Itaewon

In a narrow alley with a width of about 4 meters, tens of thousands gathered to celebrate Halloween, for the first time in three years, at the Itaewon station in South Korea, which turned into a human tragedy out of control, killing 150 people and wounding 82 others.

The accident occurred around 10:20 p.m. local time, while Choi Seung-bum, head of the Yongsan Fire Station, said a large number of people fell into a narrow alley during Halloween celebrations.

Many citizens described the area as a tangled web, filled with many narrow and steep alleys, with bars and clubs always crowded with people and cars.

The causes of the disaster in South Korea

The Itaewon disaster was assessed as a combination of narrow and steep terrain in a 4-meter-wide corridor, with no safety precautions, and inadequate precautions.

Disaster experts cited the narrow terrain, lack of safety precautions, and inadequate precautionary measures as the main reasons for the disaster.

Sun Won-bae, a professor of fire management at Zhudang University, assessed that “this incident is complete human error with a lack of safety awareness and the collapse of the civil and administrative agencies’ prevention system.”

Professor Sohn explained: “Because a large number of undisciplined crowds gathered in a certain area, they fell like dominoes.

“There may be some criticism, but it was difficult to predict such an incident and disperse the staff,” said Kwak Dae-kyung, a professor of police management at Dongguk University.

Missing South Korea accident

Authorities said relevant authorities have received at least 3,580 reports of missing persons, while the Seoul city government announced that it has set up an operating room for the accident in a nearby community center and is receiving reports through visits and phone calls, adding that a public memorial will be erected.

The Yongsan Police Station said it had carried out “comprehensive public security measures in Itaewon” two days before the accident in preparation for a crowd of about 100,000 just for the Halloween festival.
