Accident at Conakry airport: 2 security guards (Cave Canem) killed, the Air Portugal plane’s reactor irrecoverable

Following the accident of the Air Portugal (TAP) plane, recorded yesterday night, Friday September 2 at 11:40 p.m., at Conakry international airport, which killed two people, aircraft A 320, registered CS-TVI flight number 1492, found itself immobilized on the tarmac with at least one of its reactors unrecoverable.

According to information entrusted to Guineematin.com on the day of this Saturday, September 3, 2022, the passengers on board this flight came out unscathed from this accident which left two dead among the agents of Cave Canem, a security and guarding, using guard dogs. The two victims, whose identities are still unknown, provided security along the airport courtyard to prevent people from crossing the airstrip, to normally avoid such accidents…

Unfortunately, these two young people who were on a motorcycle were trying to cross the airstrip when the plane hit them. But the crew will not realize the accident until they arrive. Once the aircraft was immobilized, the security services observed that two agents from Cave Canem had crossed paths at the military base. The motorcycle and the two passengers all ended up being crushed by the plane’s engine.

After TAP passengers disembarked, the airport was immediately closed to flights. A Royal Air Maroc flight which was due to land around 1 a.m. was routed to Dakar where the passengers were picked up. Those on the return TAP flight from Conakry were also taken to a local hotel, pending the resumption of activities this Saturday and the arrival of a new flight from the Portuguese company.

After cleaning the runway, collecting the human remains and depositing the bodies at the morgue of the Sino-Guinean Friendship Hospital in Kipé, the Guinean Company for the Operation of Conakry Airport (SOGEAC) decided of the reopening of the airport this Saturday, at noon. On September 3, at least seven flights are scheduled to serve the Guinean capital. And that of the Emiraties company was already on the tarmac, ready to board, around 1 p.m., when one of the journalists from Guinemmatin.com visited SOGEAC.

At the Cave Canem security company, there is a general blackout. Journalists are not welcome and there is no information on the identity of the two officers killed, nor on their working conditions, let alone the circumstances of their disappearance.
