In Lower Austria, a hot air balloon crashed in the Kirchschlag area on Saturday. Two occupants were seriously injured, seven others suffered minor injuries.

The crash of a hot air balloon on Saturday morning in the Kirchschlag area in Buckligen Welt (Wiener Neustadt district) caused several injuries.

As Sonja Kellner, spokeswoman for the Lower Austrian Red Cross, told APA, two inmates were seriously injured and seven other people suffered minor injuries. The aircraft was therefore occupied by nine people.

Several injured in a hot air balloon crash in Lower Austria

The course of the accident was initially unclear. According to Kellner, those affected were found in two places in the Wiener Neustadt district. According to the information, two seriously and two slightly injured were in Untereck in the municipality of Hollenthon, five slightly injured in Stang, a cadastral municipality of Kirchschlag in the Buckligen Welt.

Seriously injured flown to hospitals by emergency helicopter

The two seriously injured were transported to the hospital by emergency helicopter, said Kellner. Two helicopters were in action. According to Romana Schuster from ÖAMTC, “Christophorus 33” flew an approximately 30-year-old woman to the Donaustadt clinic in Vienna.

According to the spokeswoman, “Christophorus 16” transported a man aged around 60 to the Oberwart hospital in Burgenland. Four rescue vehicles were deployed by the Red Cross, and the district operations manager was also on the spot.
